Detailed description

Yeovil and Sherborne Samaritans helps people under emotional stress at any time in their lives, by listening and providing support. This includes people who may be feeling suicidal. Could you be there for people who desperately need someone? Listening volunteers spend three hours a week in our centre supporting all kinds of people who need a confidential, non-judgemental ear to listen at a tough time in their life. You would be helping us to answer calls and messages from people who need emotional support by phone, face-to-face at our premises, by email and by text. Does this sound like you? You're interested in listening to people going through a tough time You're open-minded and non judgemental You're able to listen without telling people what to do You have three hours a week free to give You’ll gain a range of new skills and the confidence to use them, including the ability to understand people and manage difficult conversations. Many employers value these kinds of skills. It's an exciting opportunity to support a well know trusted national charity locally You will become part of a friendly, supportive team at an exciting time as we move into brand new premises in the centre of Yeovil Day Shifts are approximately 3 hours and can be chosen to suit your life style and commitments We ask for one day shift a week, plus two night shifts (5 hours) or 4 half night shifts (2.5 hours) per quarter
