Josephine’s Star is a Somerset children's charity, supporting children who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives.
We are looking for volunteers to train with us to become Grief Support Volunteers. By volunteering you will be making a real difference to the lives of bereaved children and young people.
Ideal candidates will have had experience of working with children and young people and/or those who are working towards a relevant qualification e.g. counselling, social work, psychology, teaching or educational special needs support.
The majority of our support takes place during the week and during the “School Day”. Each session is approximately an hour long and each volunteer provides 1-1 support to an individual child through 6 session over a period of weeks.
All volunteers will receive full training. The majority of our volunteers will support several children over the course of a year. The charity reimburses mileage costs for our volunteers.
Josephine's Star is committed to Safer Recruitment.
We will be holding “Meet and Greet” sessions throughout the year where you can meet charity staff and discuss the work we do and see if this role is for you.
Our "Meet and Greets" are being run virtually at the moment, contact us to book a place on our next session..

At Josephine's Star, we offer support to children and their families in Somerset when someone special has died.
We are small charity; formed by a group of professionals who know how important it is for children to have the opportunity of help and support in their grief. We provide one-to-one support, based around six, one-hour support sessions. In each session we work with the child to explore their grief and help them to develop coping strategies. All of our work is done in conjunction with the families, carers and schools to ensure the most positive outcome for the children and young people.
