About We Hear You
We Hear You (WHY) is a free professional one-to-one counselling service for anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer or another life threatening illness. This includes any family, friends and carers as well as patients. WHY also offers bereavement counselling.
The counselling staff at WHY are professionally trained, experienced and adhere to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or alternative professional body.
As an organisational member of BACP, WHY is bound by it’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to the professional Conduct Procedure for the time being in force.
We offer adult counselling at a variety of locations including Frome, Bath, Warminster, Trowbridge, Weston-super-Mare and Yeovil; children’s counselling in Frome and at The Hub, John of Gaunt school in Trowbridge; and counselling for young people at Frome Community College, Selwood Academy and Matravers School in Westbury . Positive Action on Cancer was founded in 1994 initially as a telephone helpline for women affected by breast cancer by Jill Miller. In 1998 research indicated the need for a counselling service rather than a telephone helpline. In 2016 we re-branded as We Hear You (WHY).
