Summary
We are looking for Volunteers to help create meeting points for veterans with dementia and to ensure that they feel welcome as well as their carersDetailed description
Veterans Dementia Support UK is a community organisation that provides essential help and support to Armed Forces Veterans living with Dementia. Alzhiemer's or Memory Loss and for their families so that life is full of creating new positive memories whilst sharing memories from the past.
Through our work, we will create Dementia Hubs in the heart of the community where veterans can meet others, chat, socialise with others and feel that they are included.
Our aim is for meeting points, support groups, social occasions, reminiscing sessions for both those living with dementia. But also, and importantly, for those who care for them to have peer support, access to an advice helpline and a range of resources as well as time with other carers whilst their loved ones have a separate session with new found friends.
We often forget about Veterans living in Care Homes and we are extending our support to include veterans living in care homes, so that they will be able to access our services and have visitors to chat with them about their service to our Country from others who have served or from our community befrienders.
All of our volunteers will be trained as a Dementia Friend and we will complete the DBS checks for them. We will also provide hands on training and support in person and through team meetings online.
Volunteering with us will be rewarding and by giving something back to those men and women who have served our Country over the years.
Our services are for Veterans living with varying stages and types of dementia and for all ages. .
