Looking for volunteers to run online (Zoom) shared reading groups, sharing stories and poems and discussing what you read.
If you enjoy reading and want to make a difference in your community, why not get involved with The Reader? It's a national charity that wants everyone to experience and enjoy great literature. Shared reading is a great source of wellbeing and mental stimulation. It gets people together in a low pressure environment to read and talk. We normally meet in person in libraries, but since the onset of Covid we have established alternative forms of provision to keep our group members engaged and involved. We have found that getting groups together on Zoom or similar platforms is proving to be an invaluable way of connecting people and continuing our work. We are now looking for volunteers who can embrace this new way of delivering our objectives. Volunteers will receive online training in how to manage and lead a group, and will have the support and expertise of the charity to guide them.

We run Shared Reading groups across the country. In Somerset, our Community Groups run in libraries and are open to everyone. Shared reading combats social isolation, builds self-confidence and encourages people to connect with each other. It is also very enjoyable.
