Detailed description
Shared Reading brings books, poems and plays to life through reading aloud and group discussion.
The Reader Organisation is looking for people in Somerset to train to lead shared Reading groups for people who are living with dementia.
Volunteers will receive a three-day transformative training course as well as receive ongoing support from The Reader through its local Shared Reading Community. The training in itself would be a valuable experience in learning how to lead and facilitate groups of people in Shared Reading.
They would also gain:
1) a sense of achievement.
2) an opportunity to develop confidence, employment opportunities and literacy skills.
3) a chance to really make a difference to their local community.
You will be running a weekly Shared Reading Session. Each session will last for approximately 90 mins. You may run the group alone or with another volunteer.

About The Reader
We are a national charity and a growing movement of 1000 volunteers and partners. We bring together thousands of people each week to share great literature in the form of short stories and poems. We read with schools, families and looked-after children, adults in community spaces, people in care homes, people with physical and mental health conditions, those coping with or recovering from addiction and people in the criminal justice system.
