We are looking for a passionate and empathetic volunteer to join our team at The Nelson Trust Women’s Centre in Bridgwater supporting on our evening outreach.

Do you have a commitment to making a difference to women’s lives? Are you passionate about supporting women in a holistic, gender responsive, trauma-informed way to achieve long-term lasting change?


The Nelson Trust provides specialised support and services for women who have experienced addiction, trauma, abuse, homelessness, and mental health challenges. The Somerset Women’s Centre offers a range of programmes including counselling, therapy, workshops, group support, and practical assistance tailored to the unique needs of women.


We are looking for a passionate and empathetic volunteer to join our team at The Nelson Trust Women’s Centre in Bridgwater supporting on our evening outreach provision. We require an enthusiastic, reliable individual who can commit and contribute to supporting our team on evening outreach.


You will be supporting our exploitation senior project worker on Wednesday evenings 5pm – 9pm through an assertive outreach approach. This includes going on outreach in our minivan across Sedgemoor, including walking long distances especially in the spring and summer months. We provide a safe space for women to share their needs and concerns.


You will be client focused, non-judgemental and treat clients with sensitivity and respect. Our evening outreach provision is a crucial part of our service to reach women who often find it difficult to engage with mainstream services. You will be providing emotional and practical support including providing safety and harm reduction advice and offering information about health services and other relevant services and resources to enable women to break down barriers to achieve change and safety.


We require someone who is flexible, approachable and able to take initiative to support the team to build trust, engage and establish connections with vulnerable individuals. You will be an understanding listener and help support with providing supplies from our minivan such as food, drinks, toiletries, contraception and essential items.


In this role you will handle all information with strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines regarding privacy and consent and maintain accurate records of interactions, services provided, and resources to the exploitation senior project worker.


The successful candidate will have experience in working with women with vulnerabilities and complexities, or a passion to gain that experience, an understanding of trauma and why women access our service, demonstrating warmth and respect for the women we serve.
