Summary

Volunteer helper at 'The Hangout', a new youth club for the Westfield area of Yeovil. Runs over 2 sessions, for school years 4-8, and 7-11, on Wednesdays.

Detailed description

Mission Statement: To give all young people the sense of belonging and purpose.

 

Hours:

The Hangout - Wednesday 15:30 – 19:30

Can be split up into the two separate groups

-       Younger Hangout : 15:30 – 17:30

-       Older Hangout: 17:45 - 19:30


Responsibilities/ Expectations

 

·      To help with the setting up of activities.

·      To fully engage with all youths that are present within the group.

·      To make conversations with the youths that are present.

·      To offer such things as a game of pool, a game of table tennis to the young people.

·      To be always vigilant regarding behaviour within the group.

·      To report and log conversations that are held between yourself and the young people within the session.

·      To Report to youth work leader (Ruth), any concern that you may have regarding any of the youths that attend the session.

·      To provide ideas for activities that will engage the youth whilst within the session.

·      To remember that the young people always come first within the session.

·      To build relationships with the young people within the club, finding out their interests/hobbies that could be used to improve the sessions.

·      To arrive promptly at the time stated by your youth leader.

·      To help clear up at the end of the session.

·      To complete any report as needed via email within 24 hours of the session ending.

·      If a concern form is to be completed this should be done before leaving the building at the end of the session, or as soon as possible afterwards.

St Peters Community Centre is on Coronation Avenue in Yeovil, opposite the shops at the Centre of Westfield estate. There is disabled parking in front of the entrance, and on-street parking nearby.
