Summary
We’re looking for a new Chair of Trustees to help lead our organisation as we work to help voluntary organisations in Somerset to make an even bigger impact.Detailed description
It’s a really exciting time to join Spark Somerset, and a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference. We support and champion the local Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector by providing a range of services, training and advice to inspire, change lives, and help build resilient communities. We also believe that everyone should have the opportunity to thrive. So, we work with local partners to provide volunteering opportunities for all.
Here are just some of the things we achieved in 2020/21:
- Recruited 3,020 volunteers
- Gave advice and guidance to 573 voluntary community groups
- Connected over 600 people at our 40+ networking events
- Delivered free and low-cost training to 361 VCSE staff and volunteers
With your help, we can continue to deliver these vital services.
What does the role involve?
The role of the Spark Somerset Chair is to provide leadership and direction to the board of Trustees and enable them to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of our organisation.
The Chair will ensure that our organisation remains compliant with our governing document, charity law, company law and any other legislation or regulations, and make sure that our organisation pursues its objects as defined in our governing document.
The Chair will also work in partnership with the Chief Executive and support the staff team, ensuring our work is aligned with the strategic aims of our organisation.
Who are we looking for?
We're interested in someone who shares our values, is a true leader and loves to think ahead. We’d like someone who really understands the local voluntary sector and whilst previous experience of being a Chair of Trustees is helpful, it’s definitely not essential. If you have experience of governance or are a local charity leader looking for your next big challenge, we would love to hear from you.
Diversity, equality and inclusion are really important to us, and so we encourage applications from all backgrounds and communities.
How much time will you need to offer?
This is a flexible, home-based role but you must be able to commit to at least five days per year for quarterly Board meetings and usually one strategic planning day. We’d also like you to commit to around 2-3 hours per week to support the Chief Executive.
