We need a regular Saturday sewer who can mend a variety of items and garments that are booked by the public, at our Hub on the Lower Bristol Road.

Essential skills:

  • Strong experience of repairing
  • Must be proficient in both hand and machine-sewing techniques to ensure stitches lock securely and don't unravel.
  • Able to handle a wide range of textiles (e.g., silks, denims, stretch knits, and leathers).
  • Knowing when to use a sewing machine vs. simple needle and thread to achieve a strong, invisible fix.
  • Good communication with the public—explaining problems, what can and can’t be repaired, and involving the item owner in the process. Lateral thinking - finding safe and cost effective ways to keep items in use for longer

Desirable:

  • Basic Mechanical Troubleshooting: Sewing machines get out of time, break needles, and suffer thread tension issues, an ability to problem solve and help fix issues.
