Detailed description
Do you enjoy having fun and hitting the lanes? Are you able to strike up a conversation with ease? If the answer is yes, then this role would be right up your alley! In this role, you will support a gentleman in his 60s who loves to go bowling. It is a great social and recreational activity for him and he would really benefit from a volunteer to take him to the local bowling alley to enjoy a game or two. He also loves being outdoors walking, gardening and visiting the local pub. He would love the company of someone to enjoy these activities with. He has few visitors and doesn’t see many people except his housemates and care staff. That’s where you come in – by visiting every other month you will make a huge difference. He will enjoy spending time with a friendly volunteer who can give him some special attention and do activities with him. Visits will be every 2 months on a Monday/Tuesday afternoon or anytime on the weekend, and will probably last around 1 – 2 hours. The exact times can be flexible to your availability but we ask for a minimum commitment of 1 year. As a Mencap Visiting Volunteer you will be : Reducing social isolation of people with a learning disability Increasing the independence and confidence of individuals with a learning disability Enabling people with a learning disability to fully access their local communities Reducing social isolation of people with a learning disability Increasing the independence and confidence of individuals with a learning disability Enabling people with a learning disability to fully access their local communities Visits will be every 2 months on a Monday/Tuesday afternoon or anytime on the weekend, and will probably last around 1 – 2 hours.
