Detailed description

Farm shop Volunteer role profile

Community is at the heart of what we do here at Root Connections, and we have recently started a ‘pop up’ farm shop within our garden here at Manor Farm. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to welcome our neighbours and people living in the local area up to the garden, to see what we do here at Root Connections, come and have a chat, and also to purchase our fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers. Our Farm Shop is open between 10am and 1pm every Friday, and we would love some volunteers to come and host for us. We hope that there will be 2 people hosting the stall each week so it will be a lovely sociable role. The main elements of the role include:

o  Availability on a Friday morning between 9:45am and 1pm (this does not have to be each week, we can fit you in to a rota if you are unable to commit to every week)

o  Conversing with visitors who come to the farm shop, and welcoming them to the project

o  Weighing produce and calculating prices

o  Handling money and card transactions

We will show you how to use our scales and card machine, so no prior knowledge of these is needed. We have Land Day on a Friday morning, so it is usually a busy day in the garden, with lots of people around. We like to start our Land Day with a coffee and some cake, and finish it with a community soup lunch, both of which we would love you to join us for. We have a Volunteer Application process which involves essential steps such as a DBS check, ID check and Safeguarding training, however if you would like to come along to a few sessions to try it out and give it a go before committing then we’d love to welcome you. There are a few criteria which we view as essential, and these are:

o  An interest in people

o  A friendly and positive attitude

o  Free time on a Friday for a few hours

o  Willingness to do training if required (our safeguarding training is essential for all volunteers to complete)

If you think this is something you’d be interested in doing, or if you have more questions, then we’d love to hear from you.

As an organisation our mission is to improve health and wellbeing for adults with complex needs primarily those who are homeless and rough sleeping.

All profits and proceeds quite simply go toward our aim to help end homelessness in Mendip.

We value local, ethical and chemical free growing principles. The community garden has a significant number of committed volunteers who help grow the produce that enables us to fulfil our mission.
