Summary

Volunteer at our Heritage Café: welcome visitors, serve refreshments, and share local history. 3 hours a month, and an opportunity to meet wonderful people!

Detailed description

Red Brick Building - Heritage Café volunteers

Are you a friendly and caring person?

Would you like to meet some wonderful people and give them a warm welcome?

Are you interested in Glastonbury's heritage?

Can you commit to three hours volunteering per month?

We are looking for friendly people to help us run our new Heritage Cafe, which is part of our Heritage Lottery funded project 'Morlands and Baily's: Industry and Community in Glastonbury and Street'.

The café is a place where people who have a connection to the two companies, Morlands and Baily's, can meet, share memories and find out more about local history and heritage. It runs on the last Friday of each month, 10am - 12.30pm.

Would you like to join our team of volunteers? Some tasks might include:

  • Welcoming visitors and making sure they are comfortable
  • Assisting with hot drinks and cake
  • Chatting to visitors and encouraging them to share their memories of Glastonbury
  • Setting up and tidying away

We'd love to hear from you!

About Red Brick Building

The Red Brick Building is a community owned social enterprise offering a vibrant and creative space where everyone is welcome. Any profit we make is used for community impact through arts, education and enterprise. We are a Community Benefit Society with an asset lock, registered with the FCA 30755R.

In our community garden, we support groups and individuals, improving mental and physical wellbeing, reaching out to those most in need whilst also raising awareness of nutrition, sustainability and growing organic.

To support local enterprise, we offer co-working with affordable workspaces with low cost hot desks and artisan units and our lovely light studio provides a low-cost community hire space, popular with Yoga classes, art workshops and wellbeing sessions.

A larger multifunctional events space hosts a diverse range of music gigs, comedy shows, performances and community events each week. National artists who have performed here include Toploader, Jah Wobble, Mark Chadwick, Jack Bessant, James Acaster, Mark Thomas and Milton Jones. We try to bring a range of cultural events and national artists to our local community. We also support local musicians, DJ's, young event promoters, and music students by providing a professional music venue without the high price tag often providing space for
the local college to break out, hold exhibitions and perform.

We run and host various community initiatives such as the weekly community drop in with Glastonbury Mental Health Network, a popular weekly youth club with the YMCA and a Morlands and Baily's heritage café on the last Friday of the month.
