Summary
Join Red Brick as a Board Advisor and help shape the future of a vital community hub through a time of challenge, recovery, and renewed growth.Detailed description
The Red Brick Building is a Community Benefit Society - a unique, vibrant hub for culture, art, community, and enterprise, serving Glastonbury, Street, and the surrounding areas. Our vision is to continue to grow a space alive with energy and creativity — a place where everyone is welcome to connect, collaborate, and thrive.
Over the past decade, we've built something we’re proud of: an award-winning community garden, a rich heritage project, an in-house café, coworking spaces, and a diverse programme of events, classes, and cultural activity.
But like many grassroots organisations, we’re now facing serious financial and operational challenges. This is a pivotal moment in Red Brick’s story. We are seeking passionate, skilled individuals to join us as Board Advisors — bringing insight, expertise, and energy to help steer us through a critical phase of, recovery and renewal.
We’re particularly require advisors with experience in:
- Legal and governance
- Finance
- Construction
Board Advisors will support the core board and staff team with strategic input, problem-solving, and practical guidance. These are not formal trustee/director roles, but an opportunity to contribute meaningfully without full governance responsibility.
If you believe in the power of community spaces, want to play a hands-on role in shaping the future of a much-loved organisation, and are ready to meet a challenge with clarity and commitment — we’d love to hear from you.
Time Commitment & Expectations
We ask Board Advisors to commit to:
- Attending two meetings per month (online or preferably person)
- Providing occasional input on key issues between meetings (via email or phone)
This is an unpaid voluntary role, but one where your time and skills can make a genuine impact on community. The initial advisory period is three to six months, after which there may be the opportunity to join the board in a formal capacity, by mutual agreement.
What You’ll Help Make Possible
In return for your time, you’ll be part of something truly meaningful. Your insight and support will directly contribute to keeping vital community initiatives alive from our community garden outreach and weekly drop-in sessions (in partnership with Glastonbury Mental Health Network), to our intergenerational heritage project connecting elders and schools, a growing youth group, and a team of dedicated volunteers. You'll be helping to secure the future of a space that brings people together, fosters creativity and wellbeing, and strengthens our community of Street, Glastonbury and the surrounding villages.
Please get in touch for an informal chat to discuss where we are at, what we need and whether you might be able to help.
About Red Brick Building
In our community garden, we support groups and individuals, improving mental and physical wellbeing, reaching out to those most in need whilst also raising awareness of nutrition, sustainability and growing organic.
To support local enterprise, we offer co-working with affordable workspaces with low cost hot desks and artisan units and our lovely light studio provides a low-cost community hire space, popular with Yoga classes, art workshops and wellbeing sessions.
A larger multifunctional events space hosts a diverse range of music gigs, comedy shows, performances and community events each week. National artists who have performed here include Toploader, Jah Wobble, Mark Chadwick, Jack Bessant, James Acaster, Mark Thomas and Milton Jones. We try to bring a range of cultural events and national artists to our local community. We also support local musicians, DJ's, young event promoters, and music students by providing a professional music venue without the high price tag often providing space for
the local college to break out, hold exhibitions and perform.
We run and host various community initiatives such as the weekly community drop in with Glastonbury Mental Health Network, a popular weekly youth club with the YMCA and a Morlands and Baily's heritage café on the last Friday of the month.
