Summary

We are looking to recruit a Coordinator to join our team of volunteers in providing one-to-one coaching for adults who struggle to read.

Detailed description

Read Easy is a rapidly growing volunteer organisation which provides free one-to-one coaching for adults who struggle with reading.

The Coordinator is the first point of contact with anyone who wishes to learn to read and is responsible for explaining to them how Read Easy may help them, using tried and tested assessment and enrolment procedures. New 'Readers' are 'paired' with trained Reading Coaches. The Coordinator also supports the group's Volunteer Recruiter in interviewing volunteers who wish to become Reading Coaches. Reading pairs work through a series of phonics-based coaching manuals. Working alongside our Literacy Advisers, the Coordinator keeps in touch with each reading pair, offering support and guidance where needed.

Coordinators keep basic records of the progress of each reading pair. They have the satisfaction of presenting 'stage certificates' to readers, in recognition of their progress, and a final certificate to celebrate the achievement of both Reader and Coach.

The Coordinator is fully supported by the Management Team and attends regular Team Meetings. There is a full induction, and the Coordinator Handbook provides comprehensive guidance about all aspects of the role.

Applicants for this role do not need to have specific qualifications, but we do ask for good interpersonal and administrative skills. You would need to be comfortable using a computer and communicating online. During ongoing Covid-19 restrictions we are continuing much of our work in this way.

If you enjoy a challenge this role may suit you. You would play a key part in the successful running of our group and have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of many people.
