Summary

We need bike mechanics to help us prepare bikes for people who really need them. Some experience desirable, but training will be given.

Detailed description

Prodigal Bikes currently produces around 300 refurbished bikes per year. We give them to people in Somerset on low incomes, mostly asylum seekers and refugees, to help them access to jobs, education etc. We also send bikes to East Africa, to help people there reach education, healthcare, employment, often a long walk away. Demand for our bikes is rising steadily as our charity work becomes more widely known. We are looking to increase our productivity, by opening our bike workshop more days - Thursdays as well as Wednesdays and Fridays. And so we need more bike mechanics to help prepare our bikes, which have been donated by the public and bike shops and almost always need so me TLC.

You will receive any training you need to get you up to speed. Working with us is very rewarding. It takes 1-2 hours to get a bike up to scratch, but will transform the life of the person who gets it. The reward of regularly being part of this is out of this world!

About Prodigal Bikes

Prodigal Bikes collects unwanted bikes around South Somerset. We restore and improve the bikes working alongside people with backgrounds in long term unemployment, offending, exclusion from school or with Special Needs. This work helps teach basic Engineering skills, and helps towards employment or further training in Engineering-related sectors. Our bikes are then given to people on low incomes in Somerset (most of whom are Refugees and Asylum Seekers), or shipped to Africa to help people there reach far away education, healthcare and employment.
