Peer Mentors are volunteer peers who "get it". They use their lived experience of mental health challenges to connect, support, and help improve wellbeing.
Living with mental health challenges can sometimes feel isolating. Connecting with someone who truly understands, because they’ve been there too, can make a real difference.
Peer Connections is a 1:1 mentoring project across Somerset, supporting people affected by mental health challenges to both give and receive support. Through shared lived experience, we help people build confidence, improve wellbeing, and move towards their personal goals.
We’re looking for volunteers across Somerset to become Peer Mentors. In this role, you’ll be matched with someone with similar experiences, offering support through regular conversations over a time-limited period. Together, you’ll explore ways to improve health and wellbeing and build meaningful connections.
People choose to become Peer Mentors for many reasons, whether it’s to connect with others, use their experiences to give back, build confidence, or gain valuable skills for the future.
Your lived experience is powerful. By sharing it, you can support others while strengthening your own wellbeing and recovery

About Rethink Mental Illness, Peer Connections
We are Rethink Mental Illness. No matter how bad things are, we can help people affected by mental illness improve their lives. As a leading charity provider of mental health services in England, we're on a mission to bring about meaningful change, and Peer Connections is one of our teams.
In Rethink, people affected by mental illness are at the heart of everything we do. That is why our Peer Connections team is made up of Peer Mentors, volunteers who want to use their lived experience to become a peer and walk alongside somebody on their recovery journey.
We periodically recruit new volunteers throughout the year, but if you are interested please contact us to talk about our service and what we can do on [email protected].
