Being a Rescue Animal Carer is a hands-on, physically challenging job, but it is very rewarding!

There are 3 daily shifts at the Sanctuary: Breakfast, Daytime and Bedtime. On our Breakfast and Bedtime shifts, you will follow a routine of feeding, watering and safely moving the animals around.

On our Daytime shifts, you will be cleaning coops, mucking out stables and organising the Sanctuary yard. You must be able to follow instructions but also be proactive and able to use your initiative and work independently (once trained up!). You’ll be using wheelbarrows and tools, and your body!

A lot changes from day to day at the Sanctuary and we have a very active WhatsApp group to keep everyone in the loop. We need our volunteers to be able to commit to at least 1-2 shifts every week, so that you are confident and up-to-date. Less frequently than this can

compromise the safety of our residents.

If you like what you hear and you’re up for the challenge, we would love to have you join our wonderful team! Just let us know and we can book in your 2 hour trial shift.

During this session, you will have a brief tour of the Sanctuary yard, and take on one of our daily cleaning tasks. After this, we can book in your first volunteer training shift!

If you’re unsure as to whether this is the right volunteering opportunity for you, why not book a Sanctuary Tour and meet everyone before committing?

The work is hard, but the animals are worth it. You will be working independently most of the time, but you will be part of a strong team of brilliant people.

We have regular volunteer dinners here at the sanctuary to keep our team feeling connected. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Volunteering is also excellent for your CV and we’re always happy to give references :)
