Summary

Contribute to the governance and ongoing development of our credit union.

Detailed description

Setting up a credit union is challenging but 25 years ago we were conceived, developed and launched by an enterprising and committed community group. Ever since, we have been managed and run wholly by volunteers who combine a friendly professional approach with their commitment to this community. Our management committee meets monthly online in an evening. We'd like to reinforce our committee with several new members as we shape our development for the next 25 years - including better representation from Frome, the largest town we cover.

You'd need to be (or become) a member of our credit union. We would like to hear from people with very different experience and skills to offer. Could you answer YES to at least one of these questions?

  • Are you community-minded, OK with figures, well-organised, and keen to be part of our story?
  • Are you a good communicator who could promote the credit union in any of the following ways ... speaking to local organisations, documenting member experiences in our newsletter, or raising our social media profile?
  • Are you near the start of your career, in a role where your experience as a member of our management committee would help your professional development and look good on your CV?
  • Being recently retired, are you keen to use your professional experience in an enterprising, local, ethical financial co-op?

Management Committee meetings have a broad remit - from reviewing accounts and support given to members in the previous month, to shaping policies and procedures, ensuring that we satisfy regulatory requirements, coordinating training for volunteers, business planning and system development.

People interested in joining the committee will have the opportunity to talk with some of our volunteers and will be invited to observe a couple of meetings before making any commitment.

About Mendip Community Credit Union

MCCU helps its members improve their financial health by encouraging regular saving.... as little as £1 per week! It also provides affordable loans, tailored to the amount members can comfortably repay.

We're run entirely by volunteers and have always been a 'virtual' organisation - our service points are held in local libraries and our helpline is run by volunteers 'working' from home.
