Medical Detection Dogs: Volunteer Speaker - Deliver talks to groups within your community.Detailed description
Medical Detection Dogs needs a national network of speakers to help raise awareness of the charity and raise valuable funds. Speakers deliver talks about the charity to local groups such as WIs, Rotary clubs and community groups. This role makes a real difference to the work we do, is fun, and gives you the opportunity to meet lots of people and contribute directly to a worthwhile cause. Anytime you can give makes a big difference – whether it is a few talks a year or thirty. This volunteer opportunity is great for everyone to become involved.
What does the role involve?
- Delivering a set MDD PowerPoint to local groups.
- Attending training and information sessions provided by MDD.
- Liaising with talk hosts and the MDD Regional Volunteer & Fundraising Coordinator.
- Handling and banking any donations/talk fees received in line with MDD policy.
- Completing relevant paperwork for the talk and any monies received. Optional - selling MDD merchandise after talks.
- Optional - delivering talks via Zoom.
- Optional - contacting local groups to organise your own talk
What skills or experience are required?
- Ability to talk in front of groups of all ages and backgrounds.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic IT skills.
- Enthusiastic and motivated.
- Interest in Medical Detection Dogs work.

Support and Training
- Induction process, including speaker training, shadowing opportunities, and visit to the Medical Detection Dogs centre (where possible).
- Regular and ongoing support from regional volunteer & fundraising coordinator.
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses.
- Online and in-person (where possible) Medical Detection Dogs information sessions.
- You will receive up-to-date information such as charity and volunteer newsletters to help keep your talk relevant and up to date.
- You will be provided with resources and equipment to take to talks (where possible).

💸 Reimbursement of costsAbout Medical Detection Dogs
Medical Detection Dogs trains dogs to detect the odour of human disease. It is at the forefront of the research into the fight against cancer and helping people with life-threatening diseases. Our Bio-Detection Dogs are trained to find the odour of diseases , such as cancer, in samples such as urine, breath and swabs. Our Medical Alert Assistance Dogs are trained to detect minute changes in an individual's personal odour triggered by their disease and alert them to an impending medical event.
We receive no government funding for the work we do and rely entirely on the generosity of donations from trusts and the public.
