Your time, your kindness, your presence - it all matters. Volunteer as a Hospital Companion and help brighten someone’s day
Companion Volunteers give time and emotional support to people with a terminal illness and their families. As a Companion Volunteer at Musgrove Park Hospital, you’ll provide company, a listening ear, emotional or practical support to someone. You’ll be the person they can chat with and rely on for friendly, social interaction or signpost to helpful information.
Provide friendly, personalised support to people in their last year of life.
Availability: Up to 3 hours per week
Time: Flexible to suit your schedule
Locations: Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, Somerset
Criteria: Minimum 18 years of age.
What you’ll do:
- Visit different patients at the Musgrove Park Hospital
- Each visit may be with a different person, offering variety and new conversations
- Share a cup of tea, a chat, or simply quiet companionship
- Listen to stories, memories, or just talk about the everyday
You’d be a great fit if you’re:
- Caring and compassionate nature
- Patience and good listening skills
- Comfortable with sensitive topics, such as death, dying and bereavement
- Able to commit to 3 hours a week
- Comfortable with email and completing a brief visit report
- Respectful of boundaries and confidentiality
