As a Hospital Companion you'll support people at the Yeovil Hospital, offering emotional care, companionship, and a friendly presence.

Are you someone who cares deeply about others and wants to bring comfort when it matters most?

Join our Companion service at Yeovil Hospital where you can make a meaningful difference to people with a terminal diagnosis.

Availability: 3 hours per week

Time: Flexible to suit your schedule

Criteria: Minimum 18 years of age. A Criminal Record Check is required for this opportunity - Marie Curie will cover the cost of this.

As a volunteer, you’ll offer emotional support, companionship, and a calming presence to people who need it most. Each week, you’ll spend time with someone - listening, chatting, and simply being there when they need a friendly face.

What you'll do:

  • Spend time with someone each week
  • Offer emotional support and companionship
  • Share helpful info and connect families to local services
  • Complete a basic report after each visit

Why you'd be a great fit:

  • Empathetic, patient and a good listener
  • Respectful and inclusive
  • Comfortable using basic IT tools (Email and/or Microsoft Word)
  • Willingness to learn

What you can expect from us:

  • Full training, ongoing guidance and wellbeing support
  • Recognition for your time
  • Deep sense of purpose
  • Meet amazing people and grow your skills
  • Be part of the UK’s leading end-of-life charity
  • Travel and expenses covered
  • Access to discounts on shopping, dining, travel and more

If you’re compassionate and want to make a real difference, this is your chance to give comfort and dignity to those who need it most.
