Detailed description

The Wincanton Forget-Me-Not Cafe is a new project that has been set up to give weekly support and social opportunities to those living with dementia and memory loss and their carers. Support given to carers is especially valued as the day to day stresses of caring for a loved one living with memory issues and dementia can lead to mental health problems and a decline in the carers health. This often means that they are no longer able to cope and their family member has to enter full time care. We have received funding from Somerset county council to set up a Dementia friendly cafe but as with all funding this money only allows for us to employ one member of staff to run activities. In order for the Cafe to take place we need a further two volunteers who will make an enormous difference to the effectiveness and success of this project. If you feel strongly about supporting people to remain in their homes with their families whilst living with Dementia, if you are able to give three hours a week to this project then please get in touch and make a difference to so many lives in your local area. Experience in dementia friendly activities, learning about dementia and the impact on families and carers. Supporting couples to remain together in their homes for longer. Knowing that you are making a huge difference to the lives of those living with dementia and even more so to their carers who may not have any other opportunity to meet and socialise outside their homes. We need two regular and reliable volunteers to help support and run the Forget -me-not cafe. Experience of working with those living with dementia would be valuable, but not necessary as there will be some training offered. You will need regular attendance each Wednesday afternoon between 2:15 and 4:45. Reliability is very important as the group will be quite reliant on your attendance.

About MHa, Wincanton Live at Home Scheme

At Wincanton Live at Home scheme, we want to enable older people to stay living independently in their own homes for as long as possible, with the best possible quality of life.

Through befriending, lunch clubs, assisted shopping, activity and friendship sessions, outings, escorts to appointments and much more, MHA's Live at Home schemes across the UK help to tackle loneliness and isolation in people over 55 – helping them to lead fulfilled lives and remain as active members in their local communities.

The scheme's activities programme is designed and led by its members and volunteers to ensure that we are providing the practical and social support which those we serve need.
