Summary

We will be overhauling our services in Chard, in July. We are looking for persons that would like to donate some time to help set up the new venture in Chard.

Detailed description

Previously, MHA Communities have run a day centre for people living with dementia, in Chard. When we come back to providing services again, in July, we would like to recruit volunteers to help us run the service using a different approach. Initially, we are interested in providing support and activities for older people living with dementia and their carers by forming a cafe that people can be active and creative within. We would like volunteers to help us with craft activities, Chair based exercises, cognitive therapy, cookery, music and dance. As the project transforms and the service becomes more popular, we will consider other options such as: a separate group for carers and trips out. Volunteers will need to have an openness to join in with activities and be flexible to the needs of the individuals that are taking part. Experience with older people or people living with dementia or learning difficulties would be an advantage, but not essential. Volunteers would be trained to cover everything in our policies and procedures, including first aid, health and safety, lifting and handling and food hygiene. Access to IT or knowledge of how to use a computer is essential. All volunteers will need to complete a DBS process and be able to provide references, prior to starting.

About MHA Communities South Somerset

We are a charity that enable older people to live later life well by providing services that are based in the community. The scheme currently provide telephone befriending, shopping and prescription services. However, we would normally be providing lunch clubs, trips out, dementia cafe's and friendship groups. We're based in Wincanton, but our services stretch the whole of South Somerset. We are part of a larger organisation, but serve local communities.
