Summary
We are looking for a friendly volunteer to visit and build a trusting relationship with D., a sociable man who has a learning disability and is autistic.Detailed description
About the role:
D. lives in a care home where he is exclusively supported by paid staff. You would be the person choosing to spend time with him rather than being paid to be with him.
The purpose of the role is twofold: To help us safeguarding D. and to give him the opportunity to reduce his social isolation.
Things you might do with him include: Chatting, going out for a coffee (with a member of staff present), listening to music and watching old movies.
Requirements:
Experience of people with Learning Disabilities (personal or professional experience) would be ideal for the role but not essential.
You need to be available for a couple of hours every fortnight for at least 6 months. The visits can take place at a mutually agreeable time.
As the role involves entering a care home, you will be required to show evidence of full vaccination against COVID 19, unless exempt.
Benefits to you:
The role is an opportunity for you to develop your understanding of people with learning disabilities, enhance your CV, and make an important contribution to someone's life.
References will be offered upon request after 3 months of volunteering.
Expenses incurred while volunteering (e.g. going out for coffee) will be reimbursed, along with travel expenses.
