Summary

Volunteers needed, across Somerset, to be 'Buddies' for people recovering from an acquired brain injury.

Detailed description

As a Buddy you will accompany your befriendee as they re-engage with activities and events in their community as part of their recovery. They will have had post injury care and rehabilitation, your role is to give them confidence and support them as they move forward with their lives. There are also opportunities to support by phone/Zoom.

Training and support for volunteers is ongoing and all expenses are met.

While anyone can be a Buddy this opportunity may be especially attractive to students looking for experience as they move towards a career in Health and Social Care roles. We also have volunteers who have retired from the NHS and Adult Social Care and want to continue using the skills they have developed in their working lives.

About Headway Somerset

We provide services and support across Somerset to adults with an acquired brain injury and their families. Our services start at the point an individual is in hospital through our hospital liaison service which provides critical support to individuals and more often to partners and families. Rehabilitation is provided by trained staff and a band of committed volunteers through four centres and can also be delivered through one –to-one outreach. We also have volunteering opportunities for befriending.
