Summary

Learning Volunteers assist with school visits and educational events.

Detailed description

Learning Volunteers assist with school visits and educational events. This could involve assisting with a tour of the museum for a school, assisting with educational workshops, or explaining Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths topics to visitors in fun and engaging ways.

The range of tasks that we hope our education volunteers can assist with include:

1.   Assisting museum staff with the delivery and facilitation of education (schools, colleges etc.) visits and other learning activities.

2.   Assisting with education projects including trails and holiday activities that help expand the museum’s offer for families and schools.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for people with a friendly, enthusiastic, and approachable manner who can communicate confidently with audiences of a range of ages about the Collection.

Education visits are booked in on an ad-hoc basis during school term and volunteering sessions depend on these education bookings. Generally, we find that schools and colleges visit between 9:30am and 3pm.

Volunteers can choose sessions through our online volunteer portal.

Training and support

We provide all volunteers with an induction to the Museum including Health & Safety and our online volunteer portal which gives access to shift sign up, other volunteering opportunities and Museum communications.

Additional training for information, tasks and use of any appropriate equipment will be provided as necessary.

Please note: A DBS check will be undertaken during the induction process for this role.

What you will get out of it

1.   Gain experience of volunteering in a museum educational setting

2.   Meet new people

3.   Volunteer as part of a friendly team

4.   Help visitors enjoy their experience of our Museum

5.   Develop and share your knowledge of the Museum’s Collection and motoring history
