Summary

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic volunteers, who will be trained to give a short tours of the Abbey to small groups of visitors.

Detailed description

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic volunteers, who would like to work with the Abbey Engagement team to bring Glastonbury Abbey’s history to life for our visitors. Our site is world renowned with lots of stories to tell about our past! You will be trained to give a short tours of the Abbey to small groups of visitors, to augment and support those delivered by our living history guides.

This role would also involve representing the abbey in the grounds and occasional event stewarding. This would be valuable experience for someone interested in learning about history, enjoys working with people, or is planning a career in the heritage sector.

The role would be available after the completion of a training package provided by the abbey’s Learning and Engagement team on the key facts and history of the Abbey, site familiarisation and providing visitor experiences. This will be delivered in conjunction with training provided by The Volunteer Network which would include an accredited qualification in Event Stewarding.

About Glastonbury Abbey

We are connected with legend to a degree that is unparalleled by any other abbey in England. Since Medieval times, the abbey has held legendary status as the earliest Christian foundation in Britain linked to Joseph of Arimathea and the burial place of King Arthur. Today it is a tranquil setting where you can discover the stories, explore the 36 acres of grounds and enjoy a range of events and activities.
