ROLE TITLE: Social Club Support Volunteer
ROLE LOCATION: Compass Wellbeing, Unit 7 Belvedere Trading Estate, Taunton, TA1 1BH
RESPONSIBLE TO: Centre Manager
Objective
To assist in the running of “Anything But Ordinary” Social Club for those with varying abilities aged 18+. The Social Club runs on a Tuesday from 10.30am until 12.30pm at Compass Wellbeing. The Social Club aims to provide activities that are relevant to the wants and needs of our customers who usually have a learning disability, autism or other complex need.
Main Duties
· To support the facilities team to set the rooms up with the appropriate equipment and supplies and clear activities and rooms away in readiness for following sessions.
· To support the facilities team to check customers in and take appropriate payments.
· To engage with social club customers, encouraging them to participate at a level appropriate to them. This will require you to engage in mild physical activities, play games, complete puzzles, engage in arts and craft activities and any activity chosen by the customer.
· To encourage the development of friendships between social club customers, taking an interest in their preferences and engaging in conversations as appropriate to the customer.
· To respect the individual choices of the customer, whilst encouraging them to participate as is appropriate for them.
· To supervise customers and ensure that any inappropriate behaviour is reported to a member of staff.
· To maintain the general tidiness and cleanliness of the activity rooms during sessions.
· To serve basic refreshments and take payments in the Compass Wellbeing café, passing food orders to a member of staff for preparation.
· To carry out any reasonable instruction from a member of staff to ensure the health and safety of all customers, staff and volunteers at Compass Wellbeing.
· To maintain a positive and professional image of the organisation at all times.
· Be aware of and adhere to Compass Disability Services’ policies and procedures at all times.
· To remain aware of, and abide by, current legislation, organisation policy and the eight principles relating to Data Protection.
· To commit to the necessary training and development activities in order to fulfil the role and your potential.
Person Specification
Volunteers must be 18 years of age or over.
A friendly, positive and outgoing personality
An understanding of and an ability to engage with adults with learning disabilities and other complex disabilities.
Excellent communication skills with an enthusiastic and supportive character with the energy required to keep going!
An ability to allow a professional but friendly relationship with customers to develop over time, through understanding their individual wants and needs and respect for their choices.

2.75 hours per week, Tuesday 10.15am until 1pm.
Remuneration
This is a voluntary position. Reasonable expenses as detailed in the Volunteer Expenses Policy will be claimable
