Detailed description

Would you like to get active and enjoy the great outdoors while helping to protect natural habitats for wildlife? Come and volunteer at the Carymoor Environmental Trust. It is a beautiful place to work.

Since 1996 we have created a species-rich nature reserve on 80 acres of capped landfill. It's a special place and volunteers have played a key part in its transformation. The management needed to keep this site beneficial to wildlife is immense and we have different tasks to do depending on the time of year.

In the autumn and winter months we lay hedges, plant trees, clear back scrub where needed, clear the paths, repair the bird boxes, cut the reeds around the ponds and harvest wild flower seeds. In the spring and summer we make gates and hurdles, keep the paths free from vegetation, litter pick, weed and prune the plants and shrubs in our garden area and cut and rake the grass in the wildflower meadows.

There are many other one-off tasks that we sometimes need help with, such as clearing fallen trees, making new bird boxes and fixing fences.

We have an educational centre and a lovely straw bale house which is our used as the base for our volunteers. We provide all the tools and gloves and all the tasks are supervised and risk assessed by our experienced staff. We have toilets on site and can provide hot drinks and biscuits

We have regular conservation days on Mondays 10am-1pm, Tuesdays 10am -4pm and the last Saturday of every month.

We can also cater for separate groups of up to 12 people. You are very welcome to arrange to visit our site beforehand and chat to us about any other tasks that your group might want to be involved in helping with.

For corporate volunteer groups we are asking for a donation of £250 for the day to cover our staff costs.
