Summary
Join us as a Trustee and help children with disabilities reach their potential.
Detailed description
At Brainwave, we believe every child with disabilities and additional needs deserves the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Through our specialist therapy programmes, we help children develop essential skills, increase independence, and improve quality of life for them and their families.
We currently have vacancies on our Board of Trustees to help guide the charity’s strategic direction and ensure that our work continues to change lives across the South West and beyond.
Why we need you:
We deliver our services from a National Therapy Assessment Centre in Bridgwater, Somerset, outreach hubs, home visits and online. We generate income from fundraising and a network of charity retail shops across the South West.
We are particularly keen to welcome local Trustees who can bring community insight, business expertise, or lived experience to strengthen our Board and sustain our future growth.
What you will do:
As a Trustee, you will work closely with fellow Trustees, the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team (SMT), to:
- Shape the charity’s strategy and ensure strong governance.
- Support the sustainability and impact of our therapy, fundraising and retail services.
- Champion the voices of families, supporters, and local communities.
What we are looking for:
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and communities — especially those bringing diversity of thought, experience, or lived understanding.
We are particularly interested in those with experience in:
- Lived experience — as a parent or carer of a child supported by Brainwave.
- Health, Social Care, or Education — particularly relating to children with disabilities and/or special educational needs (SEND).
- Retail — charity or commercial experience.
- Income Generation — fundraising, trading, or business development.
The Details:
- Location: Meetings held quarterly in Bridgwater, Somerset (with online options).
- Time Commitment: Around 1 day per month.
- Remuneration: Voluntary (reasonable expenses reimbursed).
- Responsible to: Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Support and Induction
We will support you every step of the way with a full induction, mentoring from experienced Trustees, and ongoing training. This is a wonderful opportunity to grow your governance experience while contributing to a charity that truly transforms lives.

If you share our passion for empowering children and families, we would love to hear from you.
