Summary
This is a twice monthly role to support those who experience difficulties with memory and mobility to take part in arts, crafts and other activities.
Detailed description
Hours:
Second and fourth Monday of each month, 9.30am to 1pm.
Location:
Kings Arms Community Hub, Wellington.
The role:
· You will be working under the supervision of members of the Bluebird team to provide companionship, support and activities for those attending the sessions.
· To assist with the serving of refreshments.
· To assist and participate in activities which take place during the sessions.
· To help provide a safe, clean environment for participants.
· To treat participants, staff and fellow volunteers with dignity and respect and to work in a way which will promote the wellbeing and enjoyment of those who attend.
· To provide a consistent, high-quality service to participants by being reliable and conscientious.
The role will also include:
· To work with staff to provide companionship support to people who may have complex mental and physical health needs.
· To help staff provide appropriate activities within the day centre and help participants to take part in these.
· To help with light domestic tasks.
Please be aware, it is NOT the role of volunteers to complete tasks such as personal care (toileting, bathing, changing clothes, etc) or manual handling (lifting or moving participants). If such duties are required, a member of staff will be able to support.
Skills required:
· Good verbal and written communication skills.
· Understanding of the need of confidentiality.
· An ability to demonstrate patience, sensitivity and reliability.
· An ability to respond appropriately to different, and sometimes difficult, situations.
· A sense of humour - our participants love a chat and a giggle!
