Summary
We're looking for volunteers, with a passion for making a difference to children, who are a fun and approachable and who can engage young people in activities.Detailed description
Do you have a passion for food? Are you keen to pass on your skills and knowledge in the kitchen to young people? Are you free on Tuesday evening? If so, come and join us at our social kitchen in Highbridge for children and young people aged 10-18 years old in Somerset.
For Our Future (SFOF) is a new service that has been co-designed by local young people and is part of Barnardo’s partnership with the Co-op. The partnership has three key aims:
- Improve young people’s mental wellbeing
- Improve access to basic needs (food)
- Improve access to opportunities
SFOF runs 2 groups per week, one in Sedgemoor (Weds) and one in Highbridge (Tues) where young people can come together and:
- Learn to cook
- Eat together
- Make new friends and connect
- Talk about things that are important to them
- Play games
- Learn new skills
- Develop confidence and teamwork skills.
The groups need volunteers to support with the above activities on a Tues or Weds from 4pm until around 6:30pm. We are looking for someone with a passion for food and cooking to support us with our sessions. Even better if (but not essential!) if you could support us with creating recipes from redistributed surplus food as our aim is to be sustainable and destigmatise the use of surplus food.
