Summary

A national team of volunteers who assist by offering support, advice, information, and signposting to sufferers and carers of sufferers of eating disorders

Detailed description

Digital Helpline Volunteers are a national team of volunteers who assist our Helpline by offering support, advice, information, and signposting to sufferers and carers of sufferers of eating disorders.

Supporting people of all ages and backgrounds you will be responding to emails from service users, web chats, and facilitating our nightly online support groups.

Digital Helpline Volunteers operate remotely so you will need to have a quiet space in your home free from distraction to volunteer.

To support you we will debrief with you at the start and end of every shift and offer you the opportunity to attend reflective supervision bimonthly.

Our Helpline opening hours are Monday – Friday 12-8pm, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 4-8pm.

We welcome applications from people with experience of eating disorders either through a personal experience, as a parent/carer or professionally. If you have personal experience of eating disorders, we ask you to meet our recovery criteria in order to safeguard your own wellbeing. We ask that you are recovered, have not displayed any symptoms of eating distress, nor received any treatment, therapy or counselling for eating issues for a minimum period of two years.

About BEAT

Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. We began life in 1989 as the first national charity for people with eating disorders because of a merger of two local charities. Called the Eating Disorders Association, we have grown and developed over time to become Beat.

We exist to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. We are a champion, guide and friend to anyone affected, giving individuals experiencing an eating disorder and their loved ones a place where they feel listened to, supported and empowered.
