Summary

Our volunteer leaders lead our weekly volunteer days ensuring the successful planting and care of trees and the safety of all volunteers on site.

Detailed description

Avon Needs Trees is a registered charity creating new, permanent woodland throughout the Bristol-Avon catchment to fight the climate and ecological emergencies.

We fundraise to buy land to create woodlands that will stand for generations, locking up carbon, boosting local biodiversity, and providing natural flood management as well as publicly accessible green space where appropriate.

Our volunteer leaders are an invaluable part of the ANT team, leading our weekly volunteer days so we can plant and care for thousands of trees, and carry out essential conservation work to help biodiversity.

We are looking for Volunteer Leaders for our woodland near Shepton Mallet, Ed Woods.

The role involves:

- Finalising risk assessments (from a template) for each volunteering session

- Welcoming other volunteers on site

- Explaining the tasks of the day and their significance to volunteers

- Supporting everybody to take part in a safe way

- Ensuring that the planting and mulching is done to a high standard

- Ensuring that the planting is in accordance with the woodland creation plan for the site

It's a fantastic way to build experience in the forestry sector or more broadly, the environmental sector. Avon Needs Trees offers ongoing support to our Volunteer Leaders and up-skilling in tree-planting and woodland skills and knowledge. It's also a great way to build connections within the sector. In the training for the role, we ask that you join our tree-planting days as a regular volunteer first. This means that no experience is required for this role. We are looking for passionate people who are able to make a commitment to supporting us over our tree-planting season.

Access to your own vehicle is strongly advised because the site is difficult to access via public transport. Travel expenses will be reimbursed but we ask that they are pre-approved first.

To apply, please apply for this role within the Spark A Change system and someone from Avon Needs Trees will be in touch shortly afterwards. Alternatively, please fill in our Expression of Interest Form for our Volunteer Leader position on our Avon Needs Trees' website.
