Need help to clear, clean & set up for an exciting art exhibition; also require stewards to man the exhibition, + volunteers to join in collaborative artmaking

As Old as the Hills is a community arts project, rooted in local heritage & environment, highlighting issues of sustainability. It will culminate in an immersive contemporary art exhibition + events for Somerset Art Weeks Festival ’24 (21 Sept-6 Oct), at the historic Bauhaus (Zig Zag) building, Glastonbury. 10 prominent artists will create site-responsive work in residencies, and work with the local community to develop collaborative art to be part of exhibition: installation, sculpture, textiles, film, photography, and performance. The project ties in with Somerset Festival's theme of Landscape: Flux & Flow. The project aims to raise awareness of localised flooding, climate change and how to live more sustainably.

We are looking for people to:

  • help clear and clean the top floor of the Zig Zag building (including windows) with us in early September
  • steward on some days during our exhibition (21 Sept-6 Oct, 10am-5pm), Glastonbury
  • take part in building a timber replica sweet track at the entrance to the Zig Zag building in (17/18 Aug). This will be collaborative making, along with artists
  • we are also looking for help to translate our posters into different languages to be more inclusive

We’re looking to reach a wide range of people. In particular, we’d love to involve young people, those living in Somerset from ethnic minority backgrounds, and those with learning or mental health challenges.

Training will be given for the tasks, especially stewarding, which entails health & safety considerations, social engagement, assistance up steps, care and vigilance. You will be working alongside artists and curators, so it's an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to gain experience in the arts.

About As Old as the Hills

I'm co-curating an art project to create and deliver an immersive contemporary art exhibition & events rooted in local heritage & environment. We'll be working with community in the lead up and during the show with social engagement activities highlighting issues of conservation and sustainability.

10 artists will create site-responsive work via residencies and workshops in the historic Zig Zag building, Glastonbury for Somerset Art Weeks Festival ’24 (21 Sept-6 Oct). This will include installation, textiles, sculpture, film, and performance. Our project ties with SAW's Festival theme Landscape: Flux & Flow.
