We're looking for volunteers to visit an older person at home to provide companionship and a friendly person to chat to for a short amount of time each week.

We are looking for friendly people in Yeovil who would enjoy spending a short amount of time each week visiting a local older person to provide company and a friendly chat.

We have clients on the waiting list for this service in this area as we do not have enough Volunteers.

Our Wellbeing Friends programme matches a friendly volunteer with an older client in their local area for a weekly home visit to reduce loneliness, provide companionship and a window to the outside world. It is about company and conversation to brighten the day. It is not about providing home help, transport or a shopping service.

This free service is part of Age UK Somerset's Wellbeing service that also includes our Walk and Talk programme for older people who would also like a little gentle exercise. We also need Volunteers for this service in your area.

Priority for these services is given to older people who live alone so you know that if you Volunteer you will be helping those that need it the most.

No experience is necessary. Full training is given. The key requirement for volunteers in this role is that they enjoy talking and listening.

Getting there

About Age UK Somerset

Age UK Somerset's mission is to improve life for the older people of Somerset and North Somerset.

There is much to celebrate about getting older, but our later years can also prove challenging: loss of confidence, lack of mobility, financial pressures and suffering from loneliness and isolation are just some of the issues our local older people face.

We offer a wide range of popular and well-used services and activities specifically developed to meet the needs of the over 60s and we need Volunteers to help us run them. These include our Wellbeing Service - including Walk and Talk, Wellbeing Friends and Friendly Phone Calls - Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy ‘Memory Connections’ groups, Information and Advice service and lots of fun Ageing Well activity sessions. These services can not be provided without the support of our wonderful Volunteers.

As a Volunteer, whatever time you can afford to give and whichever of our many roles you decide suits you the best, your contribution will be helping more older people to enjoy a happier and healthier later life.

NOW more than ever WE NEED YOUR HELP…. A lot of older people are turning to us for support and these services can only continue with the support of people like you.
