Summary

Working from home, the Treasurer raises invoices, pays bills, reports to the Committee monthly and prepares simple, annual accounts for Charity reporting

Detailed description

The Abbey Manor Community Centre, Yeovil, is a Charity which lets its rooms to regular users (e.g. badminton, scouts, guides, churches, martial arts) and for one-off events such as family parties, wedding receptions, sports events, charity bingo, etc).

It is run entirely by volunteers, we have no paid staff but contract for all services.

Your main workload will include monitoring regular payments, billing the one-off events (typically 2-5 a week), paying suppliers (typically 2-5 a month) and preparing a monthy verbal summary. Occasionally the Committee asks for advice to set fees, decide if a project is affordable, etc.

There is an established web-based accounting software system linked to our main banking account and we do not normally handle cash or cheques. We can provide the equipment to access, if required.

The Centre is run by a Committee which meets monthly on the second or third Wednesday evening each month. You would be part of that. Other volunteers will support you in the day-day role, especially the Secretary, Bookings Secretary and Chair and we will be able to cover holidays and sickness for you.

This role requires someone responsible and reliable (you will be trusted with charity monies) but it still suits a first time volunteer. Training will be provided if required - the Treasurer will normally become a Charity Trustee in due course - but this will be discussed once you are established.

We hope you will consider taking on this key community role, which benefits so many people across the social spectrum, including many who rely on the Centre to enjoy what others take for granted.
