Detailed description

About the Role

We are looking for volunteers to help support Armed Forces veterans in the Frome area. This role offers the chance to make a real difference by providing a friendly presence, offering support through conversation, and helping with refreshments.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide a listening ear and companionship.
  • Offer informal chat support to veterans and their families.
  • Help with teas, coffees, and light refreshments.
  • Assist with occasional activities or group sessions.

Time Commitment

  • Minimum of 2 hours per month.
  • Additional opportunities may be available depending on events and community needs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Friendly, approachable, and supportive attitude.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Understanding of Armed Forces life is preferred (either as a veteran, reservist, or family member), but not essential.
  • Reliable and willing to work as part of a supportive team.
  • Comfortable in an environment where conversations may sometimes include references to traumatic experiences or strong language.

What’s Not Required

  • Volunteers are not expected to provide clinical, medical, legal, or financial advice.
  • The role is about offering companionship and support, not professional services.

What You’ll Gain

  • The opportunity to give back to the veteran community.
  • Meet new people and be part of a supportive team.
  • Gain experience in community engagement and support.
  • Make a positive difference to the lives of veterans and their families.

Support for Volunteers

We take volunteer wellbeing seriously. Full guidance will be given, and you’ll always have a point of contact if you feel affected by what you hear or experience in the role.
