SummaryWe are running 2 volunteer recruitment trains which are open to anyone looking to volunteer for us. Please read full description below:
The West Somerset Railway will soon be running a special volunteer recruitment train. This is an opportunity to see what volunteering on the West Somerset Railway is all about (over 18s only).
The service will run on Sunday 24th July 2022
Travel with us on the 10:00 service from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard
the 12:30 service from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead
and meet some of the volunteers who keep the railway running.
The journey is free and refreshments will be supplied.
You will also get free travel back on any scheduled service.
Volunteering at the West Somerset Railway requires no previous railway experience. Not all jobs involve getting dirty and there are also some jobs that you can do if you are not fully mobile.
The railway has vacancies in most departments. You can work as little as a day a month, or as much as you like!
Customer facing jobs include the booking office, platform staff, retail and catering, or our information office at Minehead.
Some jobs are a little more physical, including gardening, cutting back team and travelling ticket inspectors.
Any training needed will be provided and medicals may be required in some safety critical positions.
You will be working with other volunteers, all of whom are there because they enjoy working on the railway, freely giving up their time to support the railway. Those who volunteer do so for all sorts of reasons. Many people have no previous railway experience, and it is a chance to develop new skills or new interests. Above all we like to think that we are a friendly group of people and you will be made most welcome.
If you have some free time and would like to volunteer, come and meet the team, travel on the train, and see what we are all about.
Getting thereTravel with us on the 10:00 service from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard or the 12:30 service from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead and meet some of the volunteers who keep the railway running.
About West Somerset Railway
The historic steam locomotives, coaches and wagons, and the buildings of our ten unique stations linked by a twenty mile scenic journey will repay hours of exploration.
Our work to preserve the line and our locomotives is endless and without our volunteers we would not be able to survive.
