The Victoria Field CIO is a charity which requires volunteer trustees across several areas to benefit the community of Street and the former mendip area.
Purpose
Trustees are the charity's governing body. They manage the affairs of the CIO collectively and are responsible for ensuring it fulfils its charitable objects: to provide or assist in the provision of recreational and leisure facilities for the inhabitants of the Mendip District — particularly the Parish of Street — in the interests of social welfare and the improvement of conditions of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Advance the charity's objects. Act in good faith to further the purposes of the Victoria Field Charity, ensuring all decisions and activities serve the social welfare of the local community.
- Exercise care and skill. Bring reasonable care, diligence and — where relevant — any relevant professional knowledge or experience to bear when managing the charity's affairs.
- Oversee financial stewardship. Ensure income and property are applied solely to the charity's purposes; oversee the preparation of annual accounts and Trustees' Annual Report; and ensure timely submission to the Charity Commission within 10 months of the financial year end.
- Attend and engage at meetings. Participate actively in trustee meetings (held in person or by electronic means), contribute to collective decision-making, and maintain the quorum required for business to be conducted.
- Declare and manage conflicts of interest. Disclose promptly any personal, financial or professional interest in a proposed transaction or arrangement; withdraw from relevant discussions and votes in accordance with the constitution.
- Maintain records and compliance. Ensure proper minutes are kept of all meetings and decisions; notify the Charity Commission of any material changes to the CIO's registered particulars within 28 days.
- Support good governance. Uphold the constitution, contribute to the appointment of new trustees with regard to the skills and experience needed, and act collectively to safeguard the charity's assets and reputation.
- Serve without remuneration. Trustees are unpaid volunteers. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses properly incurred on behalf of the charity may be reimbursed.
Desired Areas of Expertise
The board seeks to maintain a breadth of skills and experience among its trustees. We particularly welcome candidates with backgrounds in one or more of the following areas:
- Finance — accounting, financial management, budgeting or audit, to support oversight of the charity's accounts and stewardship of its assets
- Safeguarding and welfare — knowledge of safeguarding frameworks and welfare best practice, to help ensure the safety and wellbeing of all who use the charity's facilities
- Sales and business development — commercial experience in income generation, partnership development or community engagement
- Building and infrastructure / operations management — experience of property management, capital projects or facilities operations, relevant to maintaining and developing the Victoria Field site
- Legal counsel — legal expertise to advise on governance, contracts, liability and regulatory compliance
- Fundraising and grant writing — experience of securing funding from trusts, foundations or public bodies, to support the charity's financial sustainability
- Social media and website strategy — skills in digital communications, content creation or web management, to help the charity raise its profile and engage with the local community

- Minimum age: 16 years
