Do you have what it takes to motivate and support our Volunteer Police Cadets to fulfil their potential?

Can you lead and inspire our Police Cadets as a Volunteer Police Cadet Adult Leader?

We have a fantastic opportunity for Volunteer Police Cadet Leaders to be part of our Cadet Units in Weston-Super-Mare

Our cadet units offer young people (ages 13-17) the opportunity to learn about careers in policing, support their community, and develop valuable life skills like communication and problem-solving, all within a fun and safe environment.

What will I be doing?

  • Deliver fun weekly interactive sessions and be a positive role model
  • Support cadets at community events, visits to police teams and at policing activities
  • Create a safe and inclusive environment where all cadets are welcomed and able to share any concerns
  • Planning and preparation for weekly sessions and other activities which sometimes take place at weekends

Leaders will plan and lead activities during the weekly meetings held on :-

  • Thursday from 7pm-9pm during term time at Weston College, Knightstone Road, Weston super Mare, BS23 2AL

How much time will I need to be able to volunteer?

We ask all Volunteer Adult Leaders to attend & deliver weekly meetings which take place from 7pm-9pm.  You will need to arrive from approximately 6.30pm and leave around 9.15pm.

How will I be supported in this role?

  • No prior knowledge of policing is required, as we will provide all the necessary training and resources
  • You will have dedicated support from our Citizens in Policing team who will regularly support you with any queries you may have
  • You will be provided with a full uniform including everything you need for outdoor activities in all weathers
  • You will have the opportunity to undertake training courses such as safeguarding and first aid training
  • Handbook and toolkit will be provided for additional guidance

This role is incredibly rewarding, offering you the opportunity to make a real difference and positively impact the lives of young people in your community.

Recruitment Process:

Application:

  • You must be 18 years of age or over to apply and not have been a Police Cadet within the last 6 months.
  • Complete the application form and shortlisting questions
  • There is plenty of space so tell us about your knowledge, skills and experience from all areas of your life that relate to being a Volunteer Police Cadet Leader.
  • Provide details of ALL employment/ education/ voluntary roles you have ever held and details about any gaps when you were not working/studying.  This is part of our Safer Recruitment procedures and you will be able to add as many roles as you need to on to the application form.

Interview and activity session:

Following shortlisting, successful candidates will be invited to an in-person interview and asked to deliver a short activity to a group of cadets.

This activity can be anything you choose and needs to last no more than 15 minutes. Previous candidates have played UNO, taught knitting and even built towers from spaghetti and marshmallows.

References and Vetting:

Avon and Somerset Police are committed to safeguarding and operate safer recruitment processes.  This role requires that at least one of your references is able to comment on your interactions with children and/or young people in a personal, voluntary or employment capacity.

This role involves responsibility for young people that will require completion of an enhanced DBS and checking of the list of those barred from working with children. The role of cadet leader is considered as exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 due to the close contact leaders have with young people on a regular basis and the position of trust they are placed in.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 3 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years. Please apply via the Avon and Somerset website
