Volunteering Opportunities - Chard, Street, Somerton, Shepton Mallet, Yeovil, Minehead / Williton and Bridgwater
Could you make a valuable difference to those who need support in times of need?
Are you able to provide practical and spiritual care regardless of faith or background?
We are seeking compassionate and caring individuals to join the team of Police Chaplaincy Volunteers.
The Volunteer Chaplains support officers, staff and their families through times of crisis or need and offer pastoral care services to the Constabulary in general. There are situations that affect officers, staff and their families which vary tremendously and can be emotionally traumatic. In each of these unique situations the chaplaincy seeks to respond with empathy.
You will need to be able to reflect spiritual and ethical values, offering support to all regardless of faith or background.
Your own welfare and wellbeing is important to us and support is available, if needed.
As an organization we are caring, inclusive, courageous and committed to learning. Our values guide the way we behave, the decisions we make and how we treat people.
This is a long term volunteering commitment within your local community. Volunteer Chaplains are normally attached to a specific unit or department, or serve at a particular location, but we cannot guarantee that a vacancy will be available in your
locality.
About the Role
We are seeking compassionate, approachable and committed individuals to join our Chaplaincy Team as Volunteer Chaplains. This role provides pastoral, emotional and spiritual support to officers, staff, volunteers and, where appropriate, members of the wider policing family.
Chaplains play an important role in supporting wellbeing, resilience and inclusion. They offer a listening ear during both routine and challenging times, attend key events when required, and contribute to creating a supportive and caring organisational culture.
Who We Are Looking For
We welcome applications from people of any faith tradition. Applicants must:
- Be an active member of a recognised faith community.
- Be able to demonstrate a personal faith commitment and understanding of their own tradition.
- Respect and support people of all faiths, beliefs and backgrounds, including those with no faith.
- Be able to provide non-judgemental pastoral support.
- Have excellent listening and communication skills.
- Be comfortable working within a diverse and multicultural environment.
- Be willing to work as part of a multi-faith chaplaincy team.
- Be able to maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries.
This is not a role that seeks to promote any particular faith. Rather, it is about providing compassionate support to all members of the organisation regardless of their beliefs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pastoral, emotional and spiritual support to officers, staff and volunteers.
- Offer support following critical incidents, bereavement or significant life events.
- Contribute to wellbeing initiatives and remembrance events where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with other chaplains representing different faith traditions.
- Maintain appropriate records and adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality and organisational policies.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
We are committed to building a chaplaincy team that reflects the diversity of our communities. Applications are welcomed from Individuals of all faith traditions.
