Bridgwater Carers Support and Social group is a way for those who help their friends and family to live with mental and physical health conditions such as Dementia and Parkinson's to meet up. They are supported to share ideas, experiences and listen to expert speakers.
This group will run alongside the Talking Cafe in Westfield United Reform Church on a Thursday morning between 10am and 12pm.
Activities include:
Welcoming carers to the monthly meeting
Enabling carers to feel safe and supported
Facilitating conversation and peer support
Offering compassion but not advice
Booking Speakers (ideas and list offered)
Working alongside other professionals and volunteers.
Undertaking training in own time eg safeguarding
Operating within the Spark Volunteer agreement.
It is a sociable and fulfilling role, particularly good for those who have been a carer in the past and have an understanding of being a carer. The commitment is usually 3 to 5 hours a month.
