We want volunteers to help with visitor management, which includes providing information about where to go and what to do.
The Meads is an area of low-lying farmland to the south-west of Bridgwater, near St Matthews Field, currently used as grazing marsh. The informal footpaths through the park provide an opportunity to walk and enjoy the unique pastoral landscape. The site is divided into fields by drainage ditches and open watercourses providing a home for willow trees, kingfishers, dragon flies frogs and tadpoles. The fields are occupied by grazing cattle during the summer.
We want volunteers to help with visitor management, which includes carrying out visitor counts, providing information about where to go, what to do and what to see on site, encouraging responsible behaviour and reporting visitor conflicts. Roaming Rangers act as the eyes and ears of the ranger team, reporting issues such as storm damage, fallen trees etc, as and when they see them.
You'll learn about the wildlife and history of the site and be able to choose your own ranging hours. Experience is useful but not necessary.
You will also need to be able to work on uneven terrain in various weather conditions throughout the year.
All training is provided.
