We are looking for volunteers to be an important and valued part of our Arts Engagement & Outreach programme at The Octagon Theatre & Westlands Entertainment Venue.
Support the huge range of activities that take place through the Octagon Academy in Yeovil, and our wider arts engagement programme across Somerset.
This opportunity is suitable for those looking to gain a practical insight into how professional workshop facilitators plan & deliver their sessions, and for those looking to make new connections and support members of their community.
We would like our volunteers to support the Arts Engagement & Outreach team with the running of our Participation and Arts for Health & Wellbeing programmes, sessions and events to help our activities run smoothly. There are lots of different classes at different times of day across the week during term time, as well as during holidays that you can get involved in.
Volunteer opportunities and activities will be subject to preference across our programme of creative arts (dance, theatre, music, film and arts & crafts).
Volunteering as a Participate Volunteer will provide rewarding and enjoyable experiences. This role provides an opportunity to become a valued member of the specialist delivery programme.
What you will be doing
- Support the huge range of activities that take place at The Octagon Theatre & Westlands Entertainment Venue in Yeovil, and our wider arts engagement & outreach programme across Somerset
- Support and assist the delivery of regular sessions, workshops and activities across our participate programme
- Support and assist the running of our participation sessions and activities, where tasks may involve assisting the facilitator lead an activity, taking a register, encouraging participants to take part, promoting activities, monitoring the safety of participants and acting as a point of information
- Support our Arts Engagement & Outreach team smoothly deliver activities as required
- Assist & support participants under supervision to take part in our participation sessions and activities
- Help to supervise participants during activities
- Help to ensure the safety of participants at all times
- Interact with participants, being encouraging and supportive
- Activities will be subject to preference across our programme of creative arts (dance, theatre, music, film and arts & crafts)
The skills you need
- Have good communication and teamwork skills
- Be willing to take part in the activities
- Be willing to encourage, support and help participants and audience members
- Excellent customer service and approachable manner
