The Active Buddy project matches volunteers with adults with disabilities looking to start or get back to physical activity with a little helping hand.

You will be supporting someone to become more active, you may go walking or perhaps try local classes in the community. You'll be providing friendly support and encouragement and as their movement increases you will see them enjoying the physical benefits as well as watching their confidence grow and the positive impact on their emotional wellbeing.

The results can be life changing and one participant told us 'I feel I can really appreciate and enjoy life again'.

Main tasks:

  • Supporting an individual/s in your community one-on-one and enabling them to become more active
  • Supporting them outside of their home, including community settings and leisure facilities depending on their preferences
  • Helping build confidence and trust in physical activity while motivating and boosting self-esteem whilst being active

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to empathise
  • Friendly and supportive
  • Excellent listener
  • Caring and patient
  • Flexible and reliable
  • Good verbal communication
  • Approachable and non-judgmental
  • Positive attitude
  • Are passionate about the benefits that physical activity and moving more can bring

As a SASP volunteer you will receive training for the role and be supported every step of the way.

We currently have people waiting in Glastonbury, could you be the person to help make that difference?
