Summary

Harvesting a range of fruit and vegetables from the field and the polytunnels

Detailed description

Harvesting is an essential part of what we do at Root Connections; we pick our homegrown produce twice weekly to supply local restaurants and wholefood shops, and to fulfil our own veg box deliveries. We would love some enthusiastic volunteers to come and help out on our harvesting day - Thursday. The main tasks involved include:

  • Harvesting a range of fruit and vegetables from the field and the polytunnels
  • Quality control of the produce that is harvested to ensure that we are supplying the best produce possible
  • Weighing and measuring produce to fulfil orders
  • Packing veg boxes and preparing crates for farmers markets

We will show you what to do each step of the way so no prior knowledge is needed and we would love to see you for a session if you just want to give it a go but are unsure if it is for you

About Root Connections CIC

As an organisation our mission is to improve health and wellbeing for adults with complex needs primarily those who are homeless and rough sleeping.

All profits and proceeds quite simply go toward our aim to help end homelessness in Mendip.

We value local, ethical and chemical free growing principles. The community garden has a significant number of committed volunteers who help grow the produce that enables us to fulfil our mission.
