Volunteer opportunities run weekly through the year on Mondays and Wednesdays 10:00 - 16:00. Volunteers are provided with a free nutritious vegan lunch.
Our community forest garden is a physical manifestation of Rockaways vision. It is more than just a garden, it is an educational resource, a haven for biodiversity and a practical example of permaculture principles in action, creating a magical space.
Volunteer days are led by our head gardener Penny Austin who has 25 years horticultural experience. Penny is a Royal Horticultural Society lecturer and is passionate about soil health and maintaining a natural balance in the garden.
Biodiversity and sustainability are at the heart of our garden informing plant selection and styles creating a variety of habitats with cultural practices including no dig, permaculture and forest gardening.
With our volunteering opportunities we want to encourage environmental education and development of new skills, promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and foster a sense of belonging and better connections.
Anyone is welcome to join our team for a wide variety of tasks, from gentle to vigorous. As a thank you, we provide a delicious free lunch from the Vegan Café for all volunteers
Lets grow together!

About Rockaway Park
Rockaway Park is a unique, immersive and inspiring rural community hub: a safe, inclusive and creative shared space where people connect, collaborate and build relationships. It is part DIY utopia, part multi-disciplinary arts space, part venue and home to a community of diverse and interdependent creative talents.
The unique and innovative environment features artists’ studios, a community forest garden, vegan café, live music and performance venues, a rehearsal studio and sculpture park. These spaces are enriched with a vast collection of ‘rescued’, built or found artworks, curiosities and ephemera, preserving cultural materials that might otherwise be lost and celebrating forms of social and creative heritage that are often overlooked.
At the heart of Rockaway Park is a belief in collaboration and collectivism where sharing work, vision and ideas are how all great creations take hold and manifest. The ethos is creative, ethical, sustainable and inclusive with a strong commitment to recycling, re-using and repurposing wherever possible, alongside the use of green energy and environmentally responsible practices.
Rockaway Parks doors are always open: a safe welcoming space for the local community to gather. We foster a nurturing atmosphere where the community feels a sense of belonging - when we are not building the park we are building each other up.
There is no such thing as failure at Rockaway Park - just opportunities to learn and grow. This approach encourages confidence, resilience and creativity, particularly among those who may feel excluded from more traditional cultural settings.
Our vegan cafe provides healthy, affordable and nourishing food. We see food as a vital part of sustaining creativity, connection, physical and mental wellbeing and care within the community.
