We want to build a team of volunteers to support our youth workers at weekly sessions, helping young people to engage. You don't need to commit to each week!
Volunteer with our Youth Club
Help create an engaging and supportive space for young people in Frome
Our youth club is designed to give young people a safe place to be, positive things to do and support where they need it. Sessions are informed by the young people and may include crafts, games, cookery or sports. There is a quiet area for reading, colouring or chatting, a larger room for more active games etc. And the option to take activities outside when the weather is good. The young people attending youth club all face disadvantage and may have additional needs or behavioural issues.
We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Youth Club team and help make these sessions a safe and welcoming place for everyone who attends.
Our youth club runs weekly at the Key Centre in Frome on Thursdays from 5pm to 7pm during term time only.
What will volunteers do?
As a Youth Club volunteer, you might:
- Help set up the space before young people arrive
- Prepare and serve drinks and snacks
- Chat with and encourage young people in a friendly, supportive way
- Join in with games and activities
- Help create a safe, welcoming and inclusive atmosphere
- Assist with tidying up at the end of the session
What commitment is involved?
We're building a team of volunteers who can share the sessions on a rota basis, so there's no expectation to attend every week. We'll work with you to agree a volunteering pattern that fits around your availability. Sensitivity and a non-judgemental approach are essential.
What support will I receive?
You won't be expected to know everything from day one. Full support and training will be provided, and you'll always be volunteering alongside our experienced youth workers. We support volunteers with DBS checks where necessary, supervision, expenses and your own ID badge and high vis vest or T shirt!
Why volunteer with Youth Club?
By giving just a couple of hours of your time, you'll help provide a space where young people feel welcome, safe and supported. The role is very satisfying as you will see young people enjoying themselves and having fun, and can gently help them to deal with their challenges, building self-esteem as you go. Many of the young people who attend tell us how much the service means to them. When asked if Youth Club has changed the way they feel, one young person said:
“Yeah, I feel freedom! Get to come out and have fun without my siblings - we fight a lot at home. I feel happy when I get home from youth club and it's easier for me to get to sleep”.
If you're friendly, approachable and passionate about supporting young people in your community, we'd love to hear from you.
